I grew up in rural Sweden before moving to London and then Wales to study art, graduating with an Honours degree in Fine art from the University of Wales, Cardiff. I found my long-term home in Leith, Edinburgh, a community which I am very attached to, and where I continue to live, work, and create.
My art practice consists of painting and drawing, and various types of print making and stencilling. I have since moving to the UK always engaged with concepts of ‘belonging’ and ‘home’ in various forms. The natural environment in rural Sweden where I grew up, alongside those of my Scottish home – from urban green spaces to the inner hebrides and the highlands – allow me to make connections and gives a sense of belonging across place and time. I aim to evoke some of both the melancholy and energy in ancient landscapes. Those landscapes are also rooted in the history of their people: In particular stories of emigration interest me. Birds often come to signify migration and the contrasts between displacement, shared purpose, and belonging to the land.
I also enjoy making things, and am currently printing and making books, knitting socks using Swedish and Scottish wool, and making cards. I will add some of these to this website in time.
